Cultures that read

There are readers here!  There are a ton of newspapers for sale at the periptero, people read instead of playing on phones on the subway, and they sell books on the street and people buy them!  What a concept.  I don't know why Greece seems to have more readers.  We've noticed that smartphones are not at all common.  Everyone has a cell phone, but they seem mostly to be very simple, and used for calls and texts only. You almost never see someone playing on a phone.  Maybe that is why there are more readers.  But what is cause and what is effect?  This is a mystery.  Here are some photos of books being sold on the street. This is in addition to many independent booksellers that actually sell books and not games or toys or coffee like Barnes and Noble or our other retail giants.
