Books

We were at the Sunday Monastiraki flea market today.  One thing that struck me was the number of stalls selling books.  Lots of books, used books, mostly (but not completely) books in Greek.  We found copies of Curious George Gets a Medal and Clifford Goes Home in versions from the 1970s that were 35 cents when new, but now 2 for 5 Euros.  Ellie gathered them under her arm, but I wasn't going to pay that!  I noticed a lot of Greek comic books -- American ones like Mickey Mouse but translated in Greek.  I can't imagine seeing so many books for sale in the US.  Even our new bookstores are going out of business.  Here, there seem to be many small bookstores in our little neighborhood.  Is reading more common in Greece than the US?
