Having sorted out how to get downtown, we all rode the gleaming new Metro to Monastiraki, and wandered around the Plaka. Of course, we wanted to show the students the monuments...
But our plan all along was to lead them to Scholarcheio, our favorite Ouzeri-restaurant. Being Americans, we were ready to eat when the Greeks were still waking up from their afternoon naps, so we had the place to ourselves. The owners brought out trays of mezedes, the students chose what looked good, and Leslie explained what they were. I think everyone loved it!
Even our kids. Of course, Ellie is a trouper--squid tentacles are her favorite snack!
Afterwards, the students got to enjoy some of Athens' night life, under the Acropolis.
