Security

I mentioned "Olympic security" in the last post, and wanted to clarify.  Apparently, since the attack on Olympic athletes in 1973 in Munich, Germany, security around the athletes has been tight. Because The American College was the American training village for the Athens Olympics, there is some pretty amazing security here.  We are certainly safer here than anywhere in Jacksonville!  We need our IDs to get in to the college, which is fenced in, and there are some serious security guards there.  The guards are not normally wearing bullet-proof vests, except that the College is host to the Special Olympics this week!  But the rest of the security is there.

Our apartments were built for the athletes and coaches, so they are even more secure.  No guards, but check out the door.  Phil is holding it open, and it might be hard to see, but there are huge metal rods in the hinge side that go into the door frame, so no one can break the door down.

This is the door to our actual apartment, and again, there are those rods on the hinge side.

This is the lock.  You have to turn the key FIVE times, and each time the bolts go further into the doorframe.

Needless to say, this requires a pretty special key...
