So, to recap, We arrived on Sunday, and did a tour of the neighborhood, Monday we arrived in Naxos and explored Chora, the main town on our own. Tuesday we visited Delos and Mykonos by boat, and today we had a full-day tour of Naxos. We saw a wonderful range of things from the ruins of a temple and its attendant museum, to some beautiful traditional villages, a geology museum, natural history museum, folklore museum and archaeological museum, to a distillery (they make a special Citron liquer here), some marble quarries, and learned a lot about trees, flowers, and herbs. Whew!

I had never thought about what kind of roof a temple would have -- there is never any attempt at reconstruction of a roof that I've ever seen. The fragments found are a darker color than the reconstruction, and, small as they are, seemed to have shown enough about the construction that the archaeologists were able to make some good guess. Marble roof? HEAVY! And no nails, so it is all tongue-in-groove, it seemed to my untrained eye.
