Paros is famous for its marble quarries, but Naxos has a lot, as well. We were coming back from seeing a garden with a marble table, and the guide told us that marble is so cheap on Naxos, that you can use it for anything. Then we stopped to take pictures of a quarry we were passing near. Our bus driver asked me if I'd ever seen a marble quarry, and when I said "no," he said that he had seen this one, yesterday. But every time he drove past it, it was different. I remarked that they must be losing mountaintops at a pretty fast clip, but he said, "this is Greece, we have plenty of mountains." Hmmmm.... still thinking about that.
