After being occupied by the Italians and then the Germans in World War II, then surviving the Greek Civil War, Kefalonia was struck by a terrible earthquake in 1953 that left most of its towns and villages uninhabitable. In one small village we saw some of the beautiful ruins that demonstrate what was lost.
